Director Shankar production, Bharthiraja &Balachander performance, angadi theru Anjali n debut director Thamira and good technical members created much hype n hoopla before the release of the movie, but all goes in vain in the movie Rettai Suzhi because of pretty old boredom story and lacklustre screenplay.how come Shankar opted for this story????here is the movie which backfires shankar after "Arai enn 305 kadavul".
Story
Here is the story. before 40 years Balachander( gandhism) and Bharathiraja(communism) are good friends and both family shares a good rapport. There comes election and in that election Bharathiraja educates people with communism and so balachander loses in the election. Bharathiraja loves balachander sister but unfortunatly he doesnt wishes to give her sister to him becasue of this election results.n so her sister dies(haree ....).this is the reason for their enemity.
This fight continues for the next forty years. but all of the sudden one from the house(hero) of balachander loves the heroine(anjali)from bharathiraja home(love from childhood). Anjali though has love, hesitates because of bharathiraja. There is team of children(two gangs.....) fight every time and make pranks with other people.Finally the hero love story unites the two children gang and rest form how the children help the hero and our heroine get married ,break the echoe clash of two grandpas...
Strength
The performance of bharathiraja and balachander is the major high light of the movie. both play their part well especially bharathiraj as "Thozar" shines with style. Anjali is pretty good and expressive but her character is not etched well. Dialougues and some scenes where the children involved in the marriage planning is hilarious. In specific some child makes their presence very well (vellyan, thozrey child..watch out this guy, n child with anjali, child named kushboo..kudos to them..very well done.
karunas makes you laugh. karthik raja is back with some great meladious songs and impressive BGM.
Photography is good.
weakness
Story is damn old, and the screenplay also test your patience.no surprises,no twists ..it falls flat .The debut director doesnt know the objective of the scenes in the movie.some times emotional scenes handled in humourous way n vice verse..he is not clear what he wants..the most of the scenes are dull and boring.It also reminds Poova unnakagea, anjali and the latest pasanga. It is no where near to the movie Pasanga.
Some times children speak over matured and it doesnt work all the times. hero Aari need to improve a lot interms of expression,dialogue delivery , body language etc....when compared to other actors in screen.direction is handled very luvcarative and screenplay is lethargic..may be some interuption in direction may put this movie in burn fire....ssssshhhhh.....better luck next time thamira...
...........well at last Rettai suzhi is enjoyable only in parts ..Shankar fails misreably this time and this is one which is below average movie from "S" pictures
Verdict: 3/10( 1 for music & dialogues, 1 for balachander,bharathi raja and anjali,1 for children pranks)
