The movie starts in England where the 80 years old lady named Amy (Amy Jackson) affected with brain injury and to be undergo to an operation there. The operation for her to be dated after one week by the hospital. Within that she wants to go to Madras(Chennai) in India. With her grand-daughter, she is moving to Madras and tries to find a person called Paruthi (Arya) with his photo which has taken before 50 years by her.

In flashback, The story moves back to year 1947 and the reason for finding Paruthi by Amy revealed. Paruthi is a laundry man and he is residing the waterside of Koovam river with his sister. Amy's father is governing the Madras city at that time. Amy is coming to Madras to see her parents after her schooling. Amy falls love with Paruthi for his braveness. Meanwhile, Amy is engaged with the Police officer Robert by her father without her consent.

Paruthi and his villagers are ordered to relocate from their current working place and their residence i.e Koovam waterside by Robert for building a new golf playground over there. Amy argues for their land with Robert and makes a deal. As per deal, Robert and Paruthi will participate in a boxing match and on the result land will be given to the winner-side like Robert for British Government's Golf playground or Paruthi for his villagers livelihood. Paruthi wins the match and rescues his land. But this incident makes him to feel the Amy's love.

Meanwhile, The independence is given to India and from August 15, 1947, The Indian government will be ruled out and the British people will leave from India to their country. So Amy is fighting with his father to marry Paruthi and not to leave India. But, Amy's father was adamant for her marriage to be with Robert and not to an Indian. He give shoot at sight order to Robert against Paruthi and send Amy with his wife to Delhi for getting flight to go to England.

Amy and Paruthi escapes from their respective custodian and joins together in Madras central railway station. Then the later part of the movie goes with chase and runs between the lead pair and the police men. After a long chase, Paruthi kills Robert and He and Amy was surrounded with police men while escaping via Koovam river in a boat. Due to leg injury and bullet shot on the shoulder, he become unconscious. So now the time to hide Paruthi from police men by Amy. So she push him into the water with lifesaver. Then She is deported to England and the flashback fades off and bridges into the current day.

The last segment of the movie answers to the question like how Amy has found out his lover Paruthi by having only one proof of his photo taken before 50 years. Whether Paruthi was alive or not.

Strength:

We should appreciate this team for taking a attempt to portrait a love story in Independence period of India. The set and artworks really brought us to the old Madras and has done a great job in portraiting a period film with reality. The screenplay of the movie is very clear about the flow of the story and perfectly blends the flashback and current segment. The film has got very polite and lite comedy throughout the play.

The cast of the movie is fine and most of the artists have done their job perfectly. A special mention to V.M.C. Haneefa for his native and polite performance. Arya looks majesty in this film and he has given 100% justice to his character. Amy Jackson looks very beautiful and her character is making an impression of good among the evil in the story.

The Background score of the movie makes most scenes lively and in the last part of the movie, it rotates its sound with humble notes. The song 'Pookal Pookum tharunam' is another long lasting melody among the contemporary songs.

Cinematography plays a major role in period films. Likewise, In this film also, Cinematographer has done a fabulous job in differentiating the periods. This movie also shows the current pathetic environment of Chennai with the old Madras.

Weakness:

The total plot of the story is obviously reminding the English film Titanic. Even the character of Amy is almost a copy from Titanic movie's Character "Rose". In this area, The director could have done some other characterization for lead pair which will not resemble that movie. But as far the movie's character reception among audience, It works well and the lite comedy makes the viewer to blend on the story.

The second half of the movie with full of chase and runs between lead pair and police men makes us restless and somewhat boring at the time. As like other heroic film, The hero of this movie also is escaping easily in every attack executed by sum of police men with guns and weapons.

Amy comes to India for finding Paruthi after fifty or sixty years only. The reason for this delay and the circumstances which makes her to stay in England for these many years is not stated in the film properly. So, the overall sequence of search does not support the movie's screenplay logically.

Overall, It's a different attempt and one of the unforgettable movie. Must watchable.

Rating: 4/5 stars.
