Kalavani Tamil Movie Review

Starring: Vimal, Oviya(Helan), Saranya Ponvannan, Ganja Karuppu, Soori.
Direction: Sargunam
Music: S S Kumaran
Production: Sherali Films

It's again a village based (latest trend or minimum guaranty) romantic love story with humerus screenplay.

Story:

Near Tanjoore, There are two villages Ranimangalam and Arasanur with antagonism each other for two decades. As we know, the problem arises between two villages from a very blunt issues like the fight between the teens while playing cricket and like it goes. Here comes our hero Vimal from Arasanur who is trying to pass his twelve-th standard through a tutorial college. He is totally not into studies and he is such a person who theft vim from village society and by selling that he spend on liqueur with his freinds.

Vimal has got many enemies for his misbehavior from Ranimangalam which is hatred village for Arasanur. Amongst of all, Soori who runs a tasmac bar in Ranimangalam has huge enmity with Vimal as both are like Karthick and Prabhu in Agni Nakchathiram Film. Soori's Sister Helan is studying twelveth standard in Arasanur Government School.

Helan has to go to school by passing Vimal's agriculture land. Vimal accidentally meets her and falls with love at first sight and proposed to her after some days. She also accepts him.

One day, He has drunk full of liqueur and in fuddle he kidnaps Soori's would-be for his friend's one side love with her. But he cant able to keep her in his custody. So he ran away with his friends team by leaving her to Soori. But this incident makes Soori in his edge of anger on Vimal.

After that As everybody knows, Soori even knows about the love affair between Vimal and his sister helan. As like every brother, He also makes the same decision to arrange the secret marriage to Helan with one of his relative son. Finally the climax reveals with humor how Vimal and helan getting married and what was the reaction of Soori about their marriage.

Strength:

A great applause to Director Sargunam for giving such a village based film with the realistic humor and pleasant ending. Because most of the village based movies are not ending with such a pleasant climax like this movie. For each and every scenes of this film makes us to laugh out loud. The characters are simply real as we see next door people in a village. The character of Saranya is memorable one which shows the real village typical mother in front of our eyes.

Vimal is scoring high marks in this movie for his naughty and commoney performance. Helan is good at some scenes and in most of the scenes she doesn't have scope to perform. As of her character she has given a justified performance. Kanja karuppu is making the first half of the film more interesting. If he (His character "panchayathu") is not there, then the first half will be like a rural tele-serial.

As a village based subject, the pre-written funda is to have the sequences like stumbling persons hanging aruvas (A weapon which made with iron), too much blood and violence. But in this movie, We cant even think of it. That is most finest part of the movie. Even though it has got lot of issues to speak about violence like village fights, enmity between hero and heroine's brother, The director handles all issues in the movie with humor which replaces the violence.

Weakness:

The characterization of heroine and her family and the relationship are not properly shaped when comparing to the hero's family and character relationship. The kidnap sequence which comes in climax part is not properly explained and we cant able to believe that hero and his fool-like friends made that kidnap against such a powerful Heroine's brother gang. The marriage of hero is fully dramatic even though it has good welcome among audience but spoils the overall practical and logical touch of the movie.

The music and background could have been better. SS.Kumaran missed his second chance (his second debut film in Tamil) to show his talent. The idea of giving five bit songs and two normal songs in the movie is not done a great difference.

The photography and editing has not given any new things or try-out. This movie's photography and editing looks outdated a bit in first half of the movie. But the director's equalizes that fall with his great characterization.

Overall, It is a very good entertainer without any cinematic masala and build-up. Must watchable.
Rating 3.5/5 (Three and half stars out of Five stars).
