Story

Story opens in 2010 London where 80 year old lady with grand child wishes to go to (Chennai) to complete the unfinished task and also in search of his love Parthi(Arya ) .From there it travels 65 years back to Madrasapattinam , where a young British lady(Amy Jackson) comes to meet his father who is the present governor of Madrasapattinam. She loves India and the innocent people. She is accompanied by Nambi(Hanifa) a translator. Amy has been forced for wedding engagement with the arrogant British officer.

There opens a parallel story of Dhobi community leaves near Thames river. Khusti master(Nasser) trains some of the brave youth in Dhobi community at free times where Parithi( Arya) is real hero. Amy ( Durai amma) meets the brave man Arya and his community. Governor plans for a golf ground in the Thames river and so the dhobi people should be evacuated from the home place. In that quarrels,Arya and his team goes to Jail. Amy helps him come out of the jail and provides soft corner for Parithi. They started to meet regularly ,learn their language for their communication. In a Khusti challenge, Arya wins the British officer, and so they retain their home land where the golf land plan is shelved.Slowly love blossoms and at the time of love feel, British announce the independence date for India, where all the British should get out of India by Aug 15th.

Every people in India are happy except the couple. Amy father comes to know the love of her daughter. He tries to have conversation with Amy but she refuses to come back to Britian as she wants to marry Arya and live in India. He gets arrogant and finally he gives a shoot and sight order for Arya which is the final order provided by the British governor before independence. The couple tries to escape from the police and the arrogance officer till the sun rise. They hide in place. Do they unite? what happened to the officer and Amy? who is old lady? get in to theaters for the memorable journey.....

Strengths

Aarya has Parithi fits the bill. His performance is getting better in the recent years. His body language is perfect and toned his physique well . Any way it is Amy Jackson as Durai amma show all the way. She steals the screen with thunderous performance and looks angelic in movie. For a English woman it is difficult to emote and express in Tamil but Amy surpasses with ease. Couldn't take our eyes from the beauty.( Welcome white lady!!!!!).Its delight to watch her. Onscreen chemistry is too good.

Nasser, Balasingam, M.S Baskar, Arya friend, the British officer, English teacher, Arya's Sister make their presence well. Hanifa as Nambi made a memorable role and it is sad we missed the actor(last movie before his death).

On the offscreen, the real heroes are the art directon and photography department. Thames river/ spencer plaza takes us back to 1945. Lighting and some screen shots of Nirav are top class. They both deserve special kudos.without them the movie is half cooked .Editing is cool and G.V music is great. He has come out well with songs "vamma durai" and "pukkal" as well as with background score. Some of the scenes are pretty humorous inspecific the English learning classes.

It would have been documentary or period movie , but Director Vijay has balanced the script with entertainment and history genre. He walked in tight rope and penned the scenes pretty interesting with his team. A salute for Madarasapattinam team.

Weakness

There could have been more focus on the freedom scenes has Madrasapattinam in the history is significant place in terms of freedom fights though the movie revolve with love story. Some songs and scenes reminds Lagaan, Titanic and Mangal pandey.

But Flaws are not gonna to affect the movie/ script. Over all Kalpathi Agoram, the producer should be applauded for taking up this historical project and made it success at the end. A emotional Love tale told in the backdrop of Madrasapattinam will stay in your heart for long time.

Verdict: 8/10( 1 for Amy, 1 for cast Performance, 2 for art direction, 2 for photography,1 for music and 1 for Vijay, the director)

Movie canvas punch: Madrasapattinam -brave and brilliant. Movie not to miss!!!
