Boopathy Pandian , commercial director of Tamil cinema( Devadayai kanden, Thiruvilayadal armabam and Malai kottai)whose movie always laced with humor & other commercial elements this time too has come out with similar pattern but with new lead actors and wafer thin story. Story
Nanu prabhu(Balaji) is from poor carpenter family gets into the college to fulfill the dream of parents. Balaji falls in love at first sight on the first day of college with Sandhya(Meghna Sundar). He tries to capture the attention of Meghna but unfortunately she is senior in the college(3rd yr student). Still he cant control his love try to impress her with his do gooder quality. At the same time, senior guy a Punjabi Singh is also in love with her. Balaji become the mediator for their love. Balaji utilizes this time to share good relationship with Meghna. Meghna treats Balaji as a good friend.
At the pre-interval, she goes to hometown as his father fixes her a engagement but she rejects. Balaji at this juncture proposes love to Meghna. Meghna is not in mood accept his love and started to hate him. She tries to educate him that she believed in you as a good friend and not her love buddy. Balaji doesn't understand all this advice and goes craze on Meghna.Suddenly he gets TC and gets out of the college as love issue is known to his parents. He goes back to his fathers work and on the parallel Meghna slowly develops love for Balaji. Without knowing this , Balaji plans for a suicide drama with his neighborhood bus driver and send a letter to Meghna that he is gonna to die if she is not accepting his love. Finally , a usual tragedy happens that doesn't stay in our heart.
Strengths
First and foremost Boopathy Pandian screenplay and dialogues are the highlight of the movie. We have some great fun and lighter moments in the first half. In specific, the on liners will surely tickle your bones.College students will surely lap up on this fresh dialogues . Lead pair especially Balaji aptly fits the role of 1st year college student and has given a neat performance. Selection of movies in future will decide his future. Meghna, looks like "AYYA" Nayanthara. She has perfect debut and enacts her part well but needs to shed some weight so that she may come a round in Tamil industry. All other cast Sundarajan, Balaji friend and Singh's friend( who stares always at Balaji & his friend with Ghajini BGM) will sure bring down the theater.
It is Yuvan who is the hero of the movie has not given his best but songs are foot tapping. "O shala", "Oru vanavill", " Anbulla sandhya" are good to listen and watch. Directors dependence on him has not been wasted. Music surely garners the attention. Photography is cool and Trichy looks real.overall the, the movie only runs for 1 hour 40 min.
Weakness
The story is damn old one and lacks freshness except some scenes.Though songs are good, the placement of songs could have been better.It is small movie still the second half feels dragging. The climax is forcefully placed in the movie to bring some kindness towards the Hero but it doesn't evoke any feel.
Overall the movie is Average fare.
