The 2011world cup hungama is over and as per kollywood the summer releases have started to flow into theater though IPL is on Max. Sun pictures Mappillai, first movie releasing this 2011 summer .Has there are lot of biggies slated for release did Suraj -dhanush made it to the audience /not?had the title justify the Super star's Mappillai?

Story
Saravanan(Dhanush) is go lucky guy,a street smart,dada-type guy always quarells with the village people often involves in violence for petty reasons. Saravanan parents wants him to get out of this rubbish-rowdy character,gets promise from him not to involve in any stunts/heroism moves to Chennai stays in sister's house . Saravanan gets good image with the colony people by his patience and honesty. Child chinna(vivek) & his gang who have association for actress Namitha wants to get rich in overnight .
They go to saravanan for a Idea and as per the idea Chinna plans to correct a rich college girl Gayathri(Hansika) but the plan tumbles ,obviously Gayatri falls in lap of saravanan. She is bowled over by his humility,falls in love. Gayatri Mother Raajeswari(Manisha) is one of the richest person in the city is a real estate business woman accepts for the marriage as she expects a Son-in-law to be henpecked husband for her daughter as Saravanan would fit her bill.
But all of the sudden , she comes to know his dangerous history,tries to stop the marriage but fails.She personally challenges Saravanan that literally she will separate her daughter from him,teaches a lesson than money is all matters.Vice versa..Saravanan accepts it and tries to prove love,humleness,honesty is more than money. the Rest is all Tom-jerry game..with cliched climax...
Strengths
Dhanush is versatile actor has proved his meatle in the previous movies such as Adukalam,pollathaven. Still he is at top in commercial arena too. AS Mappillai , he is at his best be..it scenes with Vivek/manisha..he scores.Hanshika's debut movie doesnt have a great role but looks fresh and riveting in the screen with her chubby looks and glamorous costumes. Manisha koirala after a long time made a come back with tremendous role of Rajeswari is stylish.She potrayed her role with sharplooks -rich class Mamiaar is bombastic.
Vivek is good at the second half as J.P tickles your bone with a different voice modulation. Manobala, Ashis vidyarthi,Raja does thier role well..Technically the film is fair with some fast editing ,ordinary camera work by saravanan. Mani sharma is fine with background bring up the tempo but fails miserably with his routine tunes ..though " Aaru padai" and "ennoda raasi" will woo kuthu lovers...no melody's why Mani? Direction is clichy and nothing worth to mention though his one liners n some scenes will entertain by the mass.
Weakness
It is no where near to the Super star mappillai in terms of casting-their performance, script,screen presence....Lacks a big time..Sun picture marketing may provide a box office relief. Vivek is getting repetitive ..is boring in first half..whole first half lets the audience down....Dhanush-Vivek combo fails miserably.Lot of scenes are lifted from old movies which doesn't make Mappillai as USP in this Summer release..
Verdict: 4/10( 1 for Dhanush,1 for Manisha/hanshika 1 for production values and 1 for humor)
