Nanban movie review

Grand director Shankar first remake....Illayathalapathy natural, pleasant and soft performance without fights,punches, brilliant casting with some top-notch technicians coming together to repeat the success of 3 idiots, biggest grosser of all time in India..have they made it? sure, Shankar's Midas touch has made the movie Nanban....a memorable movie...

Story

Venkat(Srikanth), Sevarkodi Senthil(Jeeva) with SreeVatsan(Sathyan) after 10 years of college life they unite and searching his best buddy Panchavarna Pari(Vijay).Flash back starts...Venkat,Senthil joins Ideal engineering college first year ....dragged into ragging..but they meet Pari a intelligent student who is cool, who works on his own style attracts them..they become good friends..slowly both of them get attracted to his way..and adapt the attitude of " All is well".....Virumandi (Sathyaraj) , shortly named virus by students is a strict, determined principal doesn't like the attitude of Pari...

They always get into clash..Sree vatsan a book worm , always into mugging up...sincere in studies aims to be the topper of the college...In a fine day Pari points out faults in the education system and student pressure of running for rank race....From there, enemity between Virus and Pari grows..Slowly Pari gets introduction to the poor and middle class families of Senthil and Venkat...in the mean time they meet Nisha(Illeana) a medical student in a marriage who unfortunatly..none but virus daughter...Pari criticize her future woodby as a price tag and your life will not be happy...After few incidents Nisha falls in love with Pari.

Virus warns Venkat and Senthil not to continue friendship with Pari and challenges Pari that these fair friends will not get a job placement...in a small encounter..Senthil attempts suicide because of Virus....Pari makes them all is well....put them on the right track of a career they wished...even helps Virus in a situation with his invention of inverter....after graduation the topper Pari disappears suddenly without a trace....all the three mentioned with Nisha( stopping her marriage)comes to meet and search Pari...The rest is laugh riot with a subtle message ..have they met pari..did they reunite or not..?

Strengths

Vijay has travelled a lot from his do-gooder samratian-larger than life image...his versatility is seen in the screen ..he is joy to watch as Pari a cool,lovable student..slim..fit...no funky body language,punches ..even no fights...terrific change over for Thalapathy...mesmerises the audience...though Aamir in original is good..he is right person to fit in the charming role...best of his career....Then there is Jeeva..his comic timings are amazing and emotions are brought out well in the father accident scenes..He proved his prowess in the student role..but the dark horse is Srikanth..One of the best role till date for him..he is smart...performs casually....looks suave..bonding scene between father and him..kudos Sri...

Sathyaraj is surprise pack..has virus..he is great attraction of the movie...the voice modulation is different...and it s superb..unseen role in the Tamil film for him...though he imitated Boman...he is the right choice... Sathyan life time role as silencer is scream to watch...a memorable role and his uttering word style ..his mannerism..comic timings is biggest plus for the movie 100/100 for him..Illeana is Hip-utiful..has crackling chemistry with Vijay..no over dose of glamour...climax performance needs special mention...Anuya and S.j surya in cameo done a fantastic job.. But this all happened because of the man Shankar...It is completely a contrast movie after a serious flicks like Sivaji,Enthiran....

Though it is remake it is a deft job to present remake movie without killing the originalilty...his style is surely visible in songs and scenes picturisation....a perfectionist in nature, Shankar has done a fabulous job..even it is scene-to -scene remake.Difficult to handle multi-starrer in south India..Shankar has done it with Elan.Other biggest attraction that differentiates from original is the one-liners,nativity-dialogues. most of the time it is hilarious and educative.Madan karky and Shankar had worked hard..The next one is Locations and the photography by Manoj is amazing ,,which is colourful for the campus movie...notable work in songs and Pamban bridge shots..sure an attraction.Harris has given some pleasant Score .." Asku laska", " En Friend pola" are hummable. Editing and cuts deserves applause.. choreography,costumes and lyrics too adds value .Resul Pookuty with his sounds is good.

Weakness

It has flaws too..Original is a head...It is frame by frame remake of 3 idiots..a changes have been made to suit the south audience..Length a bit worries ( 3 hrs) ..a song and few dramatic scenes could have seen the scissors. First 20 min of the movie is little slow .......but it doesn't take away the movies charm... ...

Great pleasure to mention Rajkumar Hirani for script and Chettan Bhagat for the story..thanks for the universal concept..Shankar-Vijay multistarrer ...is sure to fire the boxoffice by their fans .

Nanban is ...decent...breezy.... colourful...crackling...sensible entertainer for all.Go and enjoy the festive mood with Nanban
