Story
There are two stories running on parallel..one .. life of David( Jeeva) in 1999 Mumbai and other David( VIkram) life in 2011 in Goa. At the end both stories joined at one platform is highlight..
First 1999 David's life...David who aspire to become a guitarist is a cool guy who lives with two sisters and his father Abrahams(Nasser)...David plays guitar in hotel and teaches few people in their house..She meets a women( Lara Dutta) who lost her husband, lives with her child and father is sharing a warm relationship with David at tough times..David too gets a offer to fly for the world tour with famous musician...but problem comes in the name of his Father ...Abrahams... a good hearten person who believes in god and charity ...got in ugly game of politics..and faces threat from Hindu political party...stamped,Beaten and pour coal in his face by a gang....and exploited...due to the incident David family goes for toss..and David tries to get answer for pulling his Father legs in the name of Politics and religion....
2011, David is fishermen in Goa lives with his mother and friend...is luck with bad charm..as his bride runs away with lover at the time of marriage..So depressed David drinks always and hates girl ..comes out with name tag "Kiruuku santa" ( funny ....)..who beats brides at the time of marriage in his place....except the massage parlor women( Tabu) whom he respect and calls her a mentor...His dead father often comes before him and guides David on his life....his friend is gonna married with a girl( Isha Sherwani)who is deaf and dumb but a good-girl for getting a boat..all of the sudden ..and few incidents.later ....David thinks that she lover him..and he moves the coin..with her mother and father for marring her..but he also feels bad about betraying his friend ...does he got married ? or left again with Kirukku Santa tag? Mumbai David's agony got a chance to fight against the political party or not?....
Strengths
It is Undoubtedly our Chiyaan and Jeeva...Both of them are played perfect foil to Bejoy and each on them registers their knock out performance..VIkram's David character is completely new to Chiyaan..he does it with fun & humor....likable and lovely portrayal of Goa David Character...He proves his versatile this time is comedy timing too...climax love failure, initial punching a lady in bar, fight, drunken scene with Isha , Dad's talk, hospital incident with mother and church father Kirukku Santa are scream...Chiyaan..does it again..On the other hand..Jeeva worked hard on his part of Guitarist ..a cool guy attitude of Mumbaikar as David is utterly amazing...His expression are easily flowing and transformations of those emotions in the scenes are highly commendable...Natural performer is the tag..which is glued to his acting career strongly in this movie..Rest of the cast to make impression like Isha Sherwani..who is beautiful...Tabu...rocking role...Lara Dutta.( oh!! no..she looks fatty and not so good)..Nasser , John VIjay and Jeeva's Two sister making a fine impression..
Bejoy Nambiar, the director has Deftly & carefully handled ..woven the screenplay....His intelligence lies is the way to story telling , Meaningful Dialogues and innovative scripting is wonderful..Particularly his characterization of David's, Vikram's Father, Tabu, Nasser are quite amazing...He even delivers a small story in few scenes..Lara dutta -Jeeva hug , cry scene...Jeeva looking the political leader face at stage shot, etc...are mind blowing...Bejoy Nambiar is sure man to be noticed for his creative thinking ....DOP is absolutly stunning and the variations of Mumbai and Goa Scenes are great...Sea side shots..vikram/jeeva's intro, Rain fight...are few things to mention here...Editing by Veteran Sreekar is nothing short of excitement....Background score is delightful in the screen...Hilarious one liners and powerful punches are biggest highlights
Weakness
Though the movie has ensemble cast and novel performance ..the main draw back is audience gets the feel of watching a dubbed version.. the lip sink..the cast (90%) lacks nativity..we could not gel into the movie because of this important reason..and miscasting of VIkram in the role also backfires..because chiyaan in triangle love drop is tedious too think of (...though he is ultimately fantastic to watch....)...None of the songs stay in the ears..Bad songs ..mostly at bad times..too much of songs to spoil....logic is fine but in few scenes it goes for toss.....Over all the movie is slow and runs dry..need much patience to watch the movie....
David is movie not for the regular cinema goers or commercial movie lovers..those who like slow ...contrast ....and yet strong platform of movie making with good subject / new characterization...David is the right choice
